Robert P. Leclerc Sa Bom Nim began his martial arts career in 1979 under the tutelage of Donald Southerton at Southerton Karate in Newburgh, New York. He achieved his Cho Dan at the 76th Dan Classing as a U.S. Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan practitioner.
By the age of 13, SBN was already teaching children and adult classes daily. He also traveled all over the Northeast competing in Tang Soo Do and open events. An avid fighter, he sought out challenging tournaments for personal skill development and to promote Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan.
From 1990-1993, SBN served in the U.S. Armed Forces as a Military Police Officer. While serving, he taught martial arts to the military community and worked with his military police unit to teach defense tactics. SBN also competed all over Europe during this time.
In 1993, SBN returned to the United States to serve as the Head Instructor at Southerton Karate and Seo’s Martial Arts. During this time, he maintained a passion for competition and promoting the Art.
SBN opened Leclerc’s Martial Arts in 1996 in Hyde Park, NY. His school quickly grew due to his desire, even at a young age, to promote Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan and to create the next generation of martial arts. With a focus on character development, his program has served thousands of families throughout the past 25 years. Now, SBN has a strong professional staff, including his two sons, running five locations across the Hudson Valley In New York, servicing more than 500 families.
He has also utilized his reach and influence to impact the local community through service to local charities. For the past five years specifically, Leclerc’s Martial Arts has donated more than $75,000 to help support local families going through cancer treatment.
Competing has remained an important component in the development Leclerc’s Martial Arts students. SBN continues to compete all over the United States and throughout the world, and has won countless titles at Tang Soo Do and open sport karate events. His accolades include seven World Championship titles in traditional forms and fighting. His students compete all over the world, still with the focus of representing the contributions of Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan to the martial arts community. As a result, he has produced 100s of grand champions, more than 25 World Champions and countless National Champions.
To support the benefits of competition, SBN has been promoting the New York State Martial Arts Championships since 1996 and has also organized tournaments for the World Tang Soo Do Union and the United States Goodwill Tang Soo Do Association.
In 2018, SBN created the International Tang Soo Do Practitioners Association, which now includes more than 1,000 students in multiple locations throughout the Northeast. The Association promotes the philosophy and the art of Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, and supports
